Fluid therapy for orphaned eastern grey kangaroo joeys
Warm the joey to 36°C before offering any oral fluids. Use isotonic electrolyte solution at 10% bodyweight over 24 hours, divided into 6 feeds. Do not offer milk replacer until fully rehydrated and passing urine.
Topical treatment of sarcoptic mange in brushtail possums
Topical bravecto (fluralaner) applied at 25 mg/kg is the current preferred agent for confirmed sarcoptic mange in brushtails, with a single follow-up at 4 weeks. Ivermectin remains acceptable where fluralaner is unavailable.
Chelation therapy for lead-toxic raptors
CaEDTA at 35 mg/kg IM twice daily for 5 days, followed by 5 days off, then re-test blood lead. Concurrent supportive care and GI decontamination as indicated.
Heat-stress event response for flying-fox colonies
Activate response above 38°C ambient with humidity >30%. Prioritise mist-spraying at colony perimeter over direct handling. Do not handle heat-stressed adults without vaccination and PPE.
